2023 Indi-Pac Day 25 Report

Tuesday April 11, 2023: It was an oh so toasty arrangement on the undercover, leeward side of the Cabramurra outbuilding. So much so that I only exited my cocoon away from home once in almost 12 hours to answer the call of nature. Speaking of which there was only a very subtle aroma lingering in the bivy from the fun and games that occurred on the Nullarbor late on Day 8.

Bloody hell……..that was over 2 weeks ago! Time flies when you’re having Type 2 fun.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: My Cabramurra Digs.

Out into the crisp clear morning…..

Tuesday April 11, 2023: Straight into the climbing.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: Straight into the climbing. Take 2. Not as steep as yesterday though.

And then the clouds rolled in………please, please don’t rain!

You can really feel the spirit of the Man from the Snowy River out here………that wild, pioneering sort of vibe.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: It was the bike that needed the rest.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: I’m a big fan of this view.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: …and then I needed a break too. I am more than ready for this mountains business to be over!

Tuesday April 11, 2023: I could cry! Take 2.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: I’m not crying you’re crying. I’m actually not crying…….seriously…….it’s what happens when I don’t take my contact lenses out overnight.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: I made a new friend at the Adaminaby Servo. A fellow 2 wheeled adventurer who had just ridden back from Melbourne via a slightly different route to me.

Tuesday April 11, 2023: I need a hug………..and yes, I could cry!

Before arriving at the Adaminaby servo I’d only eaten half a salad sandwich so I was more than ready to ram raid the shelves once I eventually got there just after 10:30am.

But that didn’t stop me from polishing off a massive portion of Lamb Shank leftovers, soon later at Justine’s house, before falling into unconscious bliss in a room with a view.

I do not have enough superlative’s to describe the gracious hospitality offered by this beautiful family. Thanks again guys. My offer for you to come visit and stay with us in Philly will always be on the table. (Catch you next time Simon!).

Tuesday April 11, 2023: A toasty warm room with an amazing view.

Suitably rested, hotel booked in Cooma, I was back into the action at just after 3pm.

3 and a bit hours later I was rolling down the main drag of Cooma.

Soon after that I was have a beer and laughing it up with the manager of the Cooma Motor Lodge who had plenty of stories. One of which was about how movie star Eric Bana and ex Redbull F1 race driver had stayed there recently on the way back from a cross country dirt bike tour, and they had pleeded with him not to let the press know that they were there.

Soon after I was knocking back my first Aussie Style Pizza of the trip.

Happy Days!

Tuesday April 11, 2023: Mmmmm, get in my belly…….the Pizza that is.

This was also the day that I found out Di had to pull out of the ride. Her and Matty Smith were ‘my people’ out there. A sad moment for all and one that I am sure stung Di the most. Knowing Di though, as I feel like I do now, she will only use that disappointment as grist for the mill, to fuel the determination for the 2024 ride.

I can’t wait to watch your dot fly, Dibbear!!

(and as if to prove my point re hospitality Alison drove to Corryong to pick up Di and bring her back to her house that night – a 280 kilometre round trip………………..extraordinary kindness of spirt!!)
